NANJING,
CHINA – World of Warcraft is today mourning the loss on one of it greatest
warriors after Lao Te Hong, a 22-year old resident of Nanjing in Southern
China, was brutally murdered by his own avatar.
It seems the
guild leader had become increasingly distant during quests, and often failed to
log on at all during recent weeks. His fellow gamers had expressed concern at
his failing grip on fantasy, saying he’d been spending a worrying amount of
time in the real world.
The shock came
on the morning of June 5th when Lao logged onto the game after a
four hour absence and was savagely attacked by his own disgruntled avatar. By
the time the Elven healers arrived at the public hub with vitality potions, Lao
had died from severe injuries caused by an Algaz Battlehammer he’d recently
purchased.
His avatar,
known as Pussmonster123, had become increasingly unstable after this new weapon
was going unused for up to three hours a day, and had turned on its user when
he finally logged back in from a cyber café in Nanjing. Lao’s body has since
been moved to the gutter outside the café to make room for more World of
Warcraft players.
A spokesman for
Blizzard Entertainment gave the following statement at an online press conference
at the Bloodmyst Isles northwest of Kalimdor:
“We greatly
regret Mr. Lao’s tragic death, and would like to assure players that we take every
precaution to ensure people spend as much time as possible online to avoid problems
of this nature.”
